The Making of an Author Family ~ by Linda Boulanger

I’ve had the honor of being a part of several box sets now and the one thing I’ve found is that in each one, at least for some period of time, there is a camaraderie that develops that is like nothing else I have found. It’s a sense of family… an author family.

We spend hours and hours planning these sets and hashing out the details. We have to iron down everything from what the common thread might be, how certain stories will fit into the overall theme, marketing plans… even who will post what on which days and where. And while there have been the occasional heartaches along the way, I have come away from every box set that I’ve been a part of with a sense of kinship, knowing I have joined together with kindred spirits to create something truly amazing.

I’m proud of these sets, but I’m even happier about the relationships that have been created, especially the lasting ones. I have authors that I call sisters and friends. How could we not grow close when we spend months pep talking, cutting up, crying, and cheering each other through slumps and spurts.

The sets may be fleeting… most of them only remain in existence for three months. But the relationships that develop… those are the things that last.

On Saturday, June 8th, Between the Tides will hit the virtual shelves. This is the latest box set I’m a part of. It includes some amazing authors that I’m super proud to be among. If you decide to grab a copy, I hope you’ll look beyond the pages, at least for a moment, and think about the authors included, knowing we created a family with a dynamic like no other that allowed our words to flow forth and onto these pages. You’re not just getting a set of books, you’re getting a piece of a very special author family.

  1. Linda, working with people like you are what make these efforts fun and successful! Thank you for always bringing a positive attitude and a willingness to help to this latest effort. Both Andi Lawrencovna and Darlene Kuncytes have praised you for all the help you gave them organizing and planning this latest work!
On a personal note, I count myself blessed that I've met you!

  2. I was so excited to be included in this set. It stretched my imagination and writing skills. We, as a group, have done something good...we have come together with no negativity and put out a quality product thanks to the help of the organizers and contributors. You are an amazing cover designer who makes our stories come to life. I'm most thankful.

  3. Grace and Marj... I enjoyed working with both of you on the Between the Tides set (as well as on others). This particular group of authors makes everything so easy and enjoyable... even at a time where "real life" is a bit topsy turvy. I love that we have each other and get to spend time together (even though it is virtual time)with a common end goal. As I mentioned in the post, I love the relationships that come from being a part of these sets and that I walk away with new and continuing friendships cemented by the family dynamic that grows during the process.

  4. What a lovely thought for all of the authors. It's the same for readers, we meet new authors and get to love them and their stories. I'm so looking forward to this set and already know a few authors from this set. One is Linda Boulanger, who makes the most beautiful book covers and writes wonderful stories herself.
